Due to increased demand for quadrivalent vaccine, both GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) and Sanofi are reporting they are not accepting any more orders for quadrivalent vaccine. For GSK, their Flulaval QD multi-dose vials are sold out and Sanofi’s Fluzone QD pre-filled syringes and multi-dose vials are sold out.
Quadrivalent flu vaccine provides protection against four strains of influenza virus: two influenza A strains and two influenza B strains. Whereas the Trivalent flu vaccine only protects against: two influenza A strains and one influenza B strain.
Nationwide Medical Surgical is currently accepting pre-book orders for the upcoming flu season. Fluzone Quadrivalent 10-Dose Vials and 10-Pack Prefilled Syringes are still available for prebook. Secure your vaccine order today.
Quadrivalent Flu vaccine is designed to protect against four different flu viruses. Determining which strains will predominate during a season affects the overall efficacy of Influenza vaccine. If vaccines are produced with strains that are not prevalent during a flu season many more influenza cases will present that year.
Current trivalent vaccines help protect against 2 A strains but only 1 B strain. According to data from the Center for Disease Control, since 2001 trivalent influenza vaccines have not contained the predominately circulating B strain more than half the time. Often the B strains chosen in the vaccine are mismatched with the B strain circulating that year.
Quadrivalent influenza vaccine helps to mitigate exposure to two B strains thereby reducing exposure to the B strain that the trivalent vaccine has missed half the time.
NMS has several presentations of Quadrivalent Influenza vaccine available for the 2015 flu season.
Fluzone High-Dose is officially 24.2% more efficacious at preventing influenza in adults over 65 years of age than other influenza vaccines.
Fluzone High Dose was studied in a randomized, multi-center, double-blind clinical trial, with 31,803 adults 65 years of age and older.
